AATB Standards for Tissue Banking

To order a copy of the 12th Edition of the Standards for Tissue Banking, please visit the AATB Marketplace.

Some highlights of improvements made to the 12th edition include:

•  The durable, plastic, coiled spine, which allows the book to lie flat when opened, has been enlarged. When Standards is kept in a 3-ring binder notebook, this larger spine size will accommodate insertion of printable standards updates and allow easier turning of these pages without page distortion.

•  The cover is new and modern.

•  For the first time, AATB’s Guidance Documents have been included in the Standards edition. Current versions appear in an additional appendix (Appendix IV). The page count now surpasses 200, which increases the size of the book by over 75%.

•  Appendix I, Request for Variance, has been substantially revised. This was previously announced in AATB Bulletin No. 08-04.

•  Throughout the Standards, references to “cells and/or tissue” have been changed to simply “tissue,” because the definition of “Tissue” in A2.000 describes that it is used collectively for both. This made sentence structure less cumbersome, and it should enhance comprehension. However, some references to “cells” remain for reproductive tissue.

•  To be consistent throughout Standards, “procurement,” “retrieval,” and “collection” were changed to “recovery” where reference was made to any non-reproductive tissue.

A CD-ROM is again included with the book. This is located in a holder attached to the inside of the back cover. The Standards appear on the CD in two versions, PDF (Adobe®) and Word (Microsoft®), and both versions are searchable.

Printable updates will continue to be posted on AATB’s website when Bulletins are issued and updates to Standards are publicized.

Please forward any comments and/or suggestions about the 12th edition of Standards for Tissue Banking to Scott Brubaker at the AATB Executive Office.
