Frank S. Wilton

Dear AATB Members,

As I reflect back on the past year's activities and accomplishments, I’m once again amazed at the incredible progress that we've been able to achieve. From the introduction of new educational programming, to the addition of two new AATB Councils, it's been an exciting year of progress and improvement.

In the past few months alone we've hosted our 42nd Annual Meeting, certified 282 new Tissue Bank Specialists, and guided 29 tissue banking professionals through our third annual Emerging Leaders Program.

You can read more about these and other AATB happenings below.

New AATB Councils

The proposed changes to the AATB Bylaws were overwhelmingly approved, with 97% of those voting supporting the changes. These changes resulted in the elevation of the NADO and Donor Family Services groups from ad hoc committees to Councils. At the AATB Board meeting in October, the Board approved the appointment of Alyssa Harrison and Michelle Post to be the interim chairs of these Councils, to serve until the next Council elections in 2020. We want to thank all the members who participated in the election and congratulate Alyssa and Michelle on joining the AATB Board of Governors.

AATB News Brief

We know how much many of you valued the weekly SmartBrief news roundup emails that we previously provided, and have missed that resource over the past few months. However, we appreciate your patience as we prepared for the launch of an even more robust weekly news update. The new AATB News Brief is delivered weekly on Wednesdays via email, and provides a hand-curated selection of relevant news articles, association updates, and AATB member news. If you have not yet subscribed to the AATB News Brief, I would encourage you to sign up today.

In 2018, we launched a brand new and much more robust prep course for the CTBS Exam. We've received great feedback on the new course and are proud to announce that 90% of all 2018 examinees used the AATB CTBS Prep Course, and 78% of those examinees passed the exam. This is a vast improvement from 2017, when only 35% of examinees used the AATB Prep Course and the exam pass rate was 62%.

More exciting news surrounding the CTBS exam is the transition to an online format that will be offered at remote testing centers, both domestically and abroad, beginning in 2019. This change will vastly improve the testing experience for future examinees, and will make taking the exam a much more convenient and accessible option.

AATB Webinar Program

In 2018, AATB began hosting a topical monthly webinar series. For 2019, we have already opened webinar registration for the entire years’ worth of programming, including a new and convenient companywide subscription for the entire 2019 webinar series. This will include more than 30 live webinars, recorded access to all presentations, CEUs, nursing credits, CMEs and more, with a simple one-time registration. You can see the webinar schedule and register here.

I’d like to thank all of you, our members, for your dedication to the association, the field, and the donor families and recipients we all serve. I hope you enjoy a happy and healthy holiday season with friends and family, and I look forward to working with you all to further our mission in the coming year.
