Communication & Educations Awards

Submissions for the 2018 Communication & Education Awards open Monday, April 2nd at 8:00 AM (ET) and close Friday, June 8th at 8:00 PM (ET).

 


Award Objectives:

  1. To share ideas and best communication practices among AATB membership.
  2. To reward innovation and creativity among AATB membership.

Divisions:

Recognizing the differences among communications programs, there are three distinct awards.

Outstanding Professional Communication

This award serves to recognize outstanding achievement in the area of communication to a specific profession regarding tissue donation and transplantation. Judges will be looking for outstanding scope, results or achievement in the area of communication projects that are tailored to communicate with or educate a specific professional audience about tissue donation and/or transplant.

Examples of Professional Groups are not limited to but may include:

  • Funeral Professionals
  • Medical Examiners
  • Medical Device Professionals
  • Surgeons

Potential examples could include presentations, outreach programs with hospitals, or education with surgeons.

Outstanding Public Communication

This award serves to recognize outstanding achievement in the area of public communication about tissue donation and transplant. Judges will be looking for outstanding scope, results or achievement in areas such as public education or awareness, community relations, social media campaigns, donor designation, media outreach, celebrity/ambassador programs, or tissue recipient engagement programs.

Groundbreaker Award

This award is to recognize unique, creative, new and groundbreaking advances in tissue banking communications. Judges will be looking for projects that address a new issue or audience, ideas and angles that have never been seen before or an unexpected, fresh spin on a traditional idea. This award is to recognize those who try new things first, lead the way for other tissue banking organizations and create tools that will be used across the profession as a whole. All entries will automatically be considered for this award.


Process:

This contest will be administered by AATB Staff. Awards will be presented at the AATB Annual Meeting each year.

Entry Questions for both Awards:

  1. In 500 words or less, summarize the project’s goal and results. Information that may help judges score the entry can include: a description of the communication problem and solution, research that was conducted, budget implications, creativity and innovation.
  2. In 500 words or less, explain why this entry should be considered outstanding. Information that may help judges score the entry include: measures of results, impact, scope, innovation and creativity. 
  3. Provide electronic versions of supporting materials for award consideration.
  4. Confirm Eligibility:
    Some part of the entry was carried out in the past year.
    Entry into the Communication and Education Awards Program contest permits AATB to share and promote the entry.

Entry Requirements:

  • Entries can be any project, campaign, electronic or printed tool designed to educate or increase awareness about tissue donation or lead an audience to action.
  • Entries must come from AATB accredited institutions or members in good standing.
  • Entries must not be previous winners of a Communication & Education Award, unless there has been a significant change in concept or modification to the project.
  • Entry form and support materials must be submitted online.  
  • A separate online entry form must be completed for each submission.
  • Entry into the Communication and Education Awards Program permits AATB to share the submission.

Judging Criteria:

  • Guest judges selected by AATB staff will judge the awards.
  • Conflict of interest: judges are prohibited from judging an award category in which he/she has entered or any representative from his/her organization has entered.
  • Each judge should review each entry in the award category completely, then use the online Judging Form to rate the entry.
  • After all judges score an entry, the scores will be totaled and then averaged for each entry to get a final score. Judges will select a first (3 points), second (2 points) and third place (1 point) winner.  The entry with the highest score will be designated the winner.
