In 2024, the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) underwent a comprehensive strategic planning process that identified the need to strengthen and protect our association’s ability to engage in advocacy, policy, and industry promotion. Following legal counsel’s advice and in alignment with IRS compliance requirements, the Board of Governors prioritized the establishment of a separate 501(c)(6) organization.
At the February 2025 Board of Governors meeting, the Board formally voted to establish a 501(c)(6) trade organization. Following the meeting, AATB Chairperson Jeff Cox established an ad-hoc steering committee and appointed George Herrera, AATB Chairperson-Elect, to serve as its chair. On May 12, the steering committee met in person and filed Articles of Incorporation for the new Association for Advancing Tissue and Biologics (AATB) as a 501(c)(6) entity.
We will keep you informed on future Association for Advancing Tissue and Biologics milestones.
